This is a very un-ATH headphone from ATH. First, its looks are not as fashionable as other offerings from ATH, even a bit plain. Second, its sound is also very different from the other lower models offered by ATH.
"Is this really a ATH headphone?" is the question that I kept asking myself when I was listeing to it.
To tell the trugh, I was never keen on the sound of the mid tolower models of ATH headphones. They always sounded unbalanced and a bit too edgy for my taste. I perferred Senhheiser for the portable headphones in this price range, but to my suprise, after some comparision listening with my PX200 it was the PX200 which was too edgy!?
Sound Characteristics
This time, ATH has given us a product that is down to earth, every penny that you pay for this little heaphone is on the sound quality and not the looks. It has a pretty balanced sound (a bit like european headphones), the tone and details are also quiet nice.
If you pair it with your protable players and is looking for good sound quality, then we belive that in this price range there are very few contenders to the ES5.br>
Do not forget that ES5 is a folding heaphone so if portability is also high on your list and PX200 does not satisfy you sonically then do give ES5 a try.

Better details, soundstage, frequency extension and tonal refinement compared tot he M1. Leans on the bright side so pairing with equipments that are not too bright are recommended

The flagship model offered by Alessandro. Shares the same driver unit as the Grado RS-1 and also have similar wood cones like the RS-1. Compared to RS-1 which is sweeter sounding, the M-Pro is more nutral in presentation. Both shares the highly dense tonal characteristic and ultra high details.
Compared to the Music One and Music Two, M-Pro has a much more pleasing sound. The edginess are almost none-existent and has less pressure inducing sound. This makes the M-Pro more suitable to a wider range of equipments.
Compared to M2, M-Pro has the same detail retrieving capabilities but the sound is more refined and smooth. It performs excptionally well with Pop, Jazz, and vocal music.
