ATH is a manufacturer that show constant and continued improved on each new generation of headphone they produce. Especially the newer W and A Ltd series of heaphones. Also, the EM series of portable headphone have grown considerably.

The D.A.D.S. and D.A.D.A structure provides great natrualness to sound reporduction. After Run-in, the closed headphone echoing problem are mostly none-existent.

Sound：

The older ATH has a characteristic sound of being sweet, soft, and warm. They are more suitable for less complex music and vocal music and are greatly praised for those traits.

The newer generations of ATH headphone has improved in their soundstage and lessened the echo often found in closed type headphones. This greatly reduces listening fatigue. Also, even though the newer gerneratinos of heaphones are not as warm sounding as the old but the change to more nutral presentation is closer to the original sound and the timber, tempo, soundstage and extension also all been improved greatly. Music sounds much more natural and the older more artificial characteristics have been replaced by natural sounding timber.

Suggested Cables and Equipments：

For older ATH headphones we recommend softer sounding equipments and cables to balance out the highly focused sound of the headphones. For example ATH HA2002 headphone amplifier is a good choice.

As for the newer generation of ATH headphones we suggest equipments and cables with a bit of warmth. Combined with the more transparent and faster sound of the new ATH would make the music even smoother.

Headphone Amplifiers：

Being high in sensitivity and low in resistance, most ATH headphones can be driving by any portable players, notebooks and the like. Eventhough it is easy to drive, but when combined with a good headphone amplifier the sound improves quiet greatly, especially for the higher models.

	【Solid Performer from Audio Technica：ES5】 This is a very un-ATH headphone from ATH. First, its looks are not as fashionable as other offerings from ATH, even a bit plain. Second, its sound is also very different from the other lower models offered by ATH. "Is this really a ATH headphone?" is the question that I kept asking myself when I was listeing to it. To tell the trugh, I was never keen on the sound of the mid tolower models of ATH headphones. They always sounded unbalanced and a bit too edgy for my taste. I perferred Senhheiser for the portable headphones in this price range, but to my suprise, after some comparision listening with my PX200 it was the PX200 which was too edgy!? Sound Characteristics This time, ATH has given us a product that is down to earth, every penny that you pay for this little heaphone is on the sound quality and not the looks. It has a pretty balanced sound (a bit like european headphones), the tone and details are also quiet nice. If you pair it with your protable players and is looking for good sound quality, then we belive that in this price range there are very few contenders to the ES5.br> Do not forget that ES5 is a folding heaphone so if portability is also high on your list and PX200 does not satisfy you sonically then do give ES5 a try.
